Why is Venue Important?
Especially in accounts receivable management(debt collection) it is imperative that a Plaintiff choose the proper court to file suit in. In all lawsuits the venue, or proper court, is important because a Plaintiff cannot randomly choose where to sue someone. In contract law the jurisdiction or venue is typically spelled out in the contract. In cases where a contract is silent on venue the court can be where the Plaintiff's place of business is OR in the case of accidents, etc where the accident occurred. In collection law though it is based on where the defendant resides at the time of the suit.
How is it selected?
In some states, like Oklahoma, the process is relatively easy because there is primarily one court per county and figuring out which county an address or location in is fairly straight forward. It goes down hill from there and can become quite complex, time consuming and highly error prone.
How did we get here?
As the EZ Story(Click Here) spells out Casey joined the team in 2010. Around that time a competitor(PCP Legal) had a tool that some clients were complaining about because it was inaccurate and incomplete. Through some conversations with Casey and Robert Eckhardt(Database Engineer) it was determined that the way PCP was doing it was less than ideal(duh the clients already said that). We decided we wanted to go the route of Geospatial or the use of Latitude and Longitude. The trick was how? That part came in some casual conversations and sometimes it's a small world. Casey and Bobby Kubin(EZ Venue Program Manager) were fishing buddies, Bobby was/is a Civil Engineer by trade. In chatting about the business problem the light bulb went off and it became clear that with Bobby's expertise and help obtaining the data from around the country and Robert's help assembling it we could do it faster and better than anyone. So we did.
Now what?
So we did.....but more recently we figured out that to really make EZ Venue pop we needed it to stand alone so that we could sell it as an individual product. Our competition uses it only as a value add such as "hey you can get the venue if you give us the process serving".....but we realized that there are 50 states to venue and we don't necessarily serve in all of those states....why hold Bobby back because of that? So, ezvenue.app was born and in September 2020 Blaine Christopher(Director of Business Development) hammered out a contract and got our first software based invoice from Zwicker & Associates.......and it's growing.....quickly.
